Part of my routine when saving a new 'MySettings' is to delete an older one. On one occasion, I deleted the old -after- saving the new, then rebooted. After booting up, the old was gone from 'BigDrive' but was there sitting pretty in the Trash folder, which seems odd twice: 1) I saved MySettings before deleting the old one so ~if~ that is part of the area covered by 'Back up settings' it seems like it should have been in 'BigDrive' and not Trash, and 2) is it normal for items to survive reboot if they are in the Trash folder,
or is this yet another of Lenovo Lappys quirks?
ps. Now that lappy is completely KNOS, do you think that BIOS flash you mentioned quite awhile back would work now?

Now that lappy is completely KNOS, do you think that BIOS flash you mentioned quite awhile back would work now? Sorry for missing you until now - we're in the process of moving to new offices at the end of the month and so about the only reliable way for me to notice issues has been through email and thus have been remiss in visiting here as usual. There *is* a weird little bug in Gnome 2.32 which can make the trash vanish and show up on the next boot again. I've seen it here and there myself. There is the normal trash location, but there's another one buried deep in the home directory that gets written to occasionally. Sometimes trash will end up in there and it won't show up as "trash" on the desktop because of this bug, but will on the next load when it actually goes and checks. That's getting saved in your backup archive and that's why it's popping up since it wasn't noticed as existing before you backed up. Nothing gets saved on a reboot, so the only way for that bad boy to return is by writing it out to the archive. That's where it is when that happens. I work around that by doing an actual DELETE. In the default configuration, that's turned off to protect against accidental deletion. If you open any file viewer, go up top to Edit, properties, and on the second tab marked "behavior" check the box marked "include delete command which bypasses trash." The gnome guys are aware of it and promise a fix. Haven't seen it come down the pipe yet though. As for the BIOS flash, I'd go for it unless you have reasons in Billyworld not to ... just be sure to make a backup of your old BIOS file just in case you find the need to restore it for some reason. Again, apologies for the delay - we'll be in our new digs and have our act together first week of September. Until then, email is the best way to get our attention for now ... that we check hourly at the longest.
