While I was composing a post on this forum I got a flashing popup saying "Congratulations you are today's iphone4 winner, click the button ..." Where did this came from?
I can't remember visiting any sites other than KNOS or a couple of BSD help sites from a google search. Is this perhaps from the forum hosting company or maybe an affiliate advertising site?
This is the same popup that a friend of mine got recently when I was trying to convince him to use a live CD for his internet banking. I had given him a link to a security expert's commentary on the DoD's LPS system. This completely put him off using it as he immediately thought he was being attacked by malware - I think he suspected the site was dodgy and I was giving him bogus information which didn't do my credibility any good. As a result he wants to stick to using Windows which I was trying to get him away from.

Hi RL,
I don't get the pop-up, but Ghostery in FF shows five trackers blocked on the proboards.com (where we are now): -Gigya Beacon -Google Analytics -NetShelter -Rubicon -Viglink also AdBlockPlus shows two critters blocked, and NoScript shows that its blocking seven, tho these seem to be name variations on the previous ones. BetterPrivacy doesn't show any hits so it doesn't look like its coming through that way.

If you're using KNOS though, go ahead and laugh even if it tried to download something ... none of that works in KNOS ... I often hit the security forums and when someone posts "I got a virus from this site" I revel in making a beeline over there to see what they were (unsuccessfully) trying ... makes my day often.
