I tried to run diags but nothing happened. Is this because I have already run it in this session?

When I logged out (not rebooted) and logged back in, there was a diags on the desktop. Maybe the file was created but not recognised by Nautilus?
Ah yes, I have just run a diags again and it didn't appear on the desktop, but opened a terminal to look and it is there.
Solution! Click on the desktop and hit f5.

Ctrl+R will also refresh the desktop. Definitely strange, but does happen from time to time. When in doubt, reload. Nautilus has been like this for several versions now where it misses the refresh signal, I'm told because our security window of message-passing is so narrow, sometimes it's busy and misses it. We're fastidious about Interprocess communication (IPC) in KNOS because leaving that door open is a security risk.
