We're pleased to announce that the beta release of KNOS 9 has been so successful that our next release will be the official "Release Candidate" for KNOS 9.
We are also pleased to announce that we've successfully added support for most Broadcom wifi cards, a formidable task that we had almost lost hope for over many years of difficulty and zero cooperation by the manufacturer. Most Broadcom wifi cards will be supported in KNOS 9 and can be tested in our Release Candidate. We encourage those with Broadcom cards to download and test our new code. This, along with some boot issues have been resolved in this release.
We are in the process of uploading KNOS 9 RC files to our server overnight and will notify our mailing list once the uploads have been completed and confirmed to be flawless later today (Monday). Those who have installed KNOS 9 Beta to hard disk or to USB sticks can use our new "Upgrade" utility inside the "Make bootable KNOS USB" utility in the System Tools menu. Simply select "upgrade" instead of "knos2usb" to leave your existing "personal" space intact while upgrading to KNOS 9 RC.
Upgrade can only be performed on KNOS 9 Beta or newer, it cannot be used on prior versions such as KNOS 6, 7 or 8. If you are running one of these earlier versions, you will need to back up your personal data first and then do a full "knos2usb" which will completely overwrite your existing media. As of KNOS 9, you will always be able to "upgrade" in the future, leaving your personal data intact as you upgrade.
