It didn't register at first with me why the laptop battery was completely drained the next day after using KNOS, but I finally noticed that when shutting down the notebook KNOS doesn't power off all the way - the screen goes blank, but the power indicator and mouse light never shut off, so the process is hanging up before completing. Now that I know, I can just hold down the power button for 4 seconds and then the machine will power off - I've seen similar with a couple of our own machines that we've tested, it's a problem in the "ACPI" part of BSD itself not getting the right communication with the power control of the CPU. Command gets sent to shut off, CPU isn't listening. This is a situation where a copy of the diagnostics would be useful in order to send the BSD folks details to hopefully find the Bronx handshake there. KNOS does not require being "properly shut down" since it has no need to write before shutting down. Other operating systems improve their bootup time by writing to the disk before shutting down, KNOS can't write anyway and so there's no need to even use the shutdown for KNOS. You can just cut the power entirely while it's running with no ill effects. So just hold the power off button until it dumps, and that will definitely work on any machine. Great for power failures, no UPS needed!

You bet! It's a Lenovo, hmmm I'll reboot into XP and run Speccy for more details.
Do you want me to resend KNOS-diags??

Hey the attachment went thru this time! I sent a copy via email in case it didn't work again here, so you're gonna have a duplicate.

Sorry for the wait ... this one is what's had me busy since nothing obvious stood out in the diagnostics as "there's your problem" and so I've flung it back to the BSD kernel people who are insanely busy themselves ... hopefully, that ACPI problem will be fixed before we release the next build.
