It would be nice if there was an option to have KNOS eject the DVD on shutdown. Knoppix does eject the CD or DVD on shutdown without a choice.
Sometimes trying to get the disk out by restarting a system can be tricky matter of timing.
I am really enjoying how KNOS works as a web browser platform!!

Never thought of that ... just so you know, I *do* have an excuse though ... since KNOS runs on the DVD, you'll note that you cannot access it. This is because of file locks and the computer itself will lock down a device which is in use. Of course, the way motherboards work, that device is in use the entire time until spindown which of course doesn't happen until the machine is OFF. I'm not sure I can absolutely find a way to do that, but have made a note to try for that on the next build. It might not be possible, but I'll try to see if we can do that.

Well guys ... been looking into this, and tossing up a "shutdown AND eject" would require making changes to some of Gnome's core code to do so. Given that we haven't come to a freeze version yet where it would make sense to break off from the pure BSD code and into something we and a staff of coders could maintain and upgrade ourselves (a future plan for sure) it appears that about all I can do for the next build would be to just pop the puck out at shutdown with a shutdown script. So for now, that's the plan ... before KNOS turns off the box, it'll spit out the puck, tell you to remove it and click OK at which time, it'll pull the drawer back in and shut off.
Reasonable compromise?

The "pop the puck out at shutdown with a shutdown script" is not working. Did the plan to implement it for KNOS3 change?

The "pop the puck out at shutdown with a shutdown script" is not working. Did the plan to implement it for KNOS3 change? Hiya! We tried to find a way, but alas ... that can ONLY be done in the kernel code which puts us in a vexing situation. Part of the KNOS design for the assurances of the "officially paranoid" such as admins, government, and other ciritical users who will actually pay us for this stuff is to ensure that they can *independently* get the BSD source code and apply it completely independently of us to ensure that there cannot be any "funny business" on our end just in case they don't feel like trusting us with the kernel code. KNOS is all the stuff living ABOVE the kernel code, and thus since this requires it to be done in the kernel (we're still trying to find a way but have been unsuccessful so far in doing this in "userland" code) we're still in search of a way to do that. We haven't forgotten, we just haven't found a way to do that ... YET.
