Our most profuse apologies for the error in the advance email that we sent out for the KNOS 9 beta!
Both of the files are password protected in order to prevent several antiviruses from false-alarming on the ISO file contained within. We regret that we had to stop the insanity of several vendors who don't even check the file, and just go ahead and alarm over it because it's a mystery to them. We were under the mistaken understanding that the same password had been applied to both files as planned, but it turns out that each received a different one when they were uploaded to our site.
The PROPER unpack passwords are:
32 bit version: beta9 64 bit version: knos9
Once again, our apologies for the confusion. The above information has been verified as correct.

Problem with unpacking rar file on Linux Mint 10.
joncrndl@geo ~/iso $ unrar e knos9beta64.rar
UNRAR 3.93 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2010 Alexander Roshal
Extracting from knos9beta64.rar
KNOS 9 Beta 64 - Copyright 2012, KNOS Project
Enter password (will not be echoed) for knos.iso:
Extracting knos.iso 99% Encrypted file: CRC failed in knos.iso (password incorrect ?) Unexpected end of archive Total errors: 2 joncrndl@geo ~/iso $
I used the password supplied but as you can see, something is not happy.

I had Knos9b64 extract fine, but Knos9b32 does not. Used same password for both...

[on Toshiba laptop] The make bootable usb procedure says it completed successfully for Knos9b64, but it will not boot with the usb. It says Intel UNDI 1997-2000 Client MAC ADDR DHCP PxeMoF No boot File
then it boots into windows.
And the Knos9b32 still will not extract here with the "knos9" password .

Unexpected end of archive Total errors: 2 joncrndl@geo ~/iso $ I used the password supplied but as you can see, something is not happy. Should have worked of course. Seeing some complaints about the password had me concerned that we had glitched, but just finished downloading and can confirm that the password is knos9 for both the 32 and the 64. Because so many people are still stuck in Billyworld, we took care to use Roschal's WINRAR to pack up the files and obtain the CRC's and all on an XP box we keep in the corner for that purpose. We further packaged the RAR with authenticity and recovery data so that the authenticity could be properly verified when opened. I suspect that the problems being seen are the result of a corrupted download. Therefore, I'd suggest sucking it down once again and see if that does the trick. I don't see any reason why the extraction should fail on Linux even though we set things up to ensure that Windows (and its antiviruses) wouldn't choke on it.

I had Knos9b64 extract fine, but Knos9b32 does not. Used same password for both... Similarly, I suspect this might also have been a bad download. Just finished grabbing it here and no problem. Give it another try, and let me know if you get it OK the second time.

[on desktop] The stick made on Tosh laptop does boot up on the desktop - BUT can not enter text in gedit, browser, anywhere.... Mouse works fine, but no keyboard function The error messages coming back from your BIOS suggest that it's looking for the boot record on a network and not finding it. KNOS9's boot loader is all new and we've designed KNOS to permit PXE boot-loading on corporate networks where KNOS can be put on a server and clients booted from that. In googling for an answer on "Intel UNDI 1997-2000", it turns out that some BIOS' are setup incorrectly as far as "boot order" goes and yours is apparently looking to boot from a network before looking to the USB device in the "boot order." Check your BIOS settings for "boot order" and move the USB device to the top of the listing and that should do the trick. I've confirmed that we did set the proper password on the 32 RAR, so the problem would have to be a corrupted file since the password goes at the end of the file in order to decrypt it and it that last portion is missing, then the password won't work. I'm kinda surprised that the verification inside the RAR file isn't catching it being corrupted. We deliberately trashed copies of it on our end and got an error message similar to what Jon got on his.

Any chance of sending me diagnostics from that machine with the mouse? KNOS 9 includes a whole new XORG GUI driver which handles detecting keyboards, mice and screens. I'm quite curious as to how yours is somehow not being detected properly.

And confirming once again, our fault!
The correct password to unpack the 32 bit version is: beta9
And for the 64 build, it's: knos9
That should solve the problem for those who had problems unpacking the 32 bit version.

No problem, as I just checked my e-mail account, and saw that the new beta was available...I will be trying the 64 build this time.
