Official support for KNOS 6, released on July 7, 2009, ended on June 7, 2011. Any customers who did not upgrade to KNOS 7 or later are advised to contact support for the final maintenance release of KNOS 6 as we are closing out our internal archives of both product and the KNOS Builder toolkit for KNOS 6 releases for those users who are still using the KNOS 6 product. KNOS 6 maintenance release will include all rollups of security fixes as well as latest versions of both the toolkit and the product ISO's, depending on your original purchase. The last security update rquired for KNOS 6 was January 23, 2011.
Official support for KNOS 7, released on May 20, 2010 will end on August 1, 2012. Any customers who did not upgrade to KNOS 8 or later are advised to contact support for the final maintenance release of KNOS 7 as we are closing out our internal archives of both product and the KNOS Builder for the KNOS 7 releases for those users still using the KNOS 7 product. KNOS 7 maintenance release will include all rollups of security fixes as well as latest versions of both the toolkit and the product ISO's, depending on your original purchase. Those who purchased annual maintenance subscriptions are also eligible to upgrade to either KNOS 8, 8.1, 8.2 or can upgrade to KNOS 9 as soon as it is available at no extra charge. The last security update required for KNOS 7 was January 23, 2011.
No security updates have been required for KNOS 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 or 9.0 Beta so far.
Please note that "end of life" determinations are made by the FreeBSD Foundation, not the KNOS Project and "End of life" means that no further upgrades are made available by BSD itself and not us. For the benefit of our customers, we ensure full support at all times and arrange for updates and upgrades long before "End of life" for our customers. For our current 8.2 release, "end of life" is expected to occur towards the end of the year with a replacement release of KNOS 8.3 which will be valid into 2014. KNOS 9.0 is expected to remain valid through 2013 and replaced by a 9.1 version at that time barring the need to replace it for other purposes at an earlier date. Normally KNOS releases remain valid well past BSD's official end of life owing to our unique security design. Some customers are still using our original 1 and 2 releases from 2007.
Customers who opt for our annual subscription will be maintained and renewed to their choice of the latest version of either KNOS 8.x or 9.x at all times going forward. Later this year, we expect to begin a KNOS 10.x development series once KNOS 8.3 and 9.1 have been released. We hope this will settle some questions we've received lately regarding having four separate versions of KNOS available.
As always, we highly recommend that customers upgrade to our latest versions when they become available, but maintain older versions for the convenience of corporate and institutional customers. Toolkits for all versions of KNOS are always available if required for customers who prefer to generate their own custom builds of KNOS and maintain same well past "official obsolescence."
