WHAT'S NEW IN KNOS BETA 3
1. Detailed boot time diagnostics printout on bootup screen in order to be able to resolve remaining hardware compatibility problems which might prevent proper booting on some obscure computer systems. This will be removed in future release versions. These can be disregarded completely if KNOS boots up.
2. Added Epiphany web browser (based on the Webkit engine as opposed to Gecko as used in Firefox/Mozilla) as an experimental inclusion to permit us to break from the Firefox legacy in future editions. We'd appreciate feedback on how it performs for you, mindful that it has limitations in features in its current form.
3. Additional wifi cards supported including additional Intel, and Broadcom-based wifi cards and internal motherboard wifi devices. Some Broadcom devices unfortunately still not supported owing to patent issues with Broadcom and certain vendors (Dell, Apple and Lenovo) which could not be resolved by release time. These are still under development using newly-introduced Linux drivers which are not yet compatible with BSD.
4. New BSD 8.1 kernel and support for both 32 and 64 bit, but still includes the Gnome 2.28 versions of desktop products as Gnome 2.30 still has issues which have prevented us from including it in this version and causing us to release this as a beta 3 rather than a potential release candidate.
5. IPV6 support added. Enhancements primarily "under the hood" in plug and play improvements, better memory utilization and "crash-proofing" of desktop components.
6. New desktop themes and wallpapers added including OSX and Windows 7 lookalike layouts for personalization.
7. Introducing our "portal" as your start page. In the future, this will be your access to our "cloud" and the ability to store your customizations and files. Custom versions of KNOS can be built to replace this access page with another to point to corporate or other portals for access for specific custom needs.
