I'm terribly sorry about that. The changes didn't get saved in the original email, I didn't check them enough I guess. It's been fixed, and I sent you another email with the correct links.

No problem. I just checked my webmail account and noticed that you had sent a second email a few hours after your initial one about the beta 3,and also, a third email in response to this thread. I guess I should check this webmail account more often.

No problem. Bottom line is that you're set. That's what really matters.

I've downloaded and burned KNOS3 twice now, and it still comes up to the KNOS2 start page - item #7 on the Beta 3 change log topic page says "Introducing our "portal" as your start page. ", so either I am still getting KNOS2, or else the KNOS3 portal is the KNOS2 start page?? The second time I downloaded and burned KNOS3 the size of the download/iso was larger, but I guess I still don't know if I actually have KNOS3 yet or not.

It looks like you got another beta 2 copy. I'm terribly sorry, had a problem with the links on the first email I sent out, but I thought I got the correction to everyone back on the 10th. Please email beta-at-knosproject-dot-com for the corrected links. You may want to check your email to see if it got lost somewhere. If you're connected or not, the beta 3 screen will *say* beta 3 when you start the browser.
Sorry again about this. It's more important that you get the current version.

well, the third try wasn't exactly the charm - but I perservere.....
After the third download of KNOS3, I thought I would use Daemon Tools Pro to burn the disc this time instead of ImgBurn , and the result was: "Operating System Not Found" . Sheewizzzzzz.
So, for the fourth attempt, I went back to ImgBurn, and, Finally, KNOS3 !!!!!
Whew!
(I'll put things I notice in separate threads}

So, for the fourth attempt, I went back to ImgBurn, and, Finally, KNOS3 !!!!! Whew! (I'll put things I notice in separate threads} Yeah, I've been seeing quite a bit of that lately with Win7 in particular, but Vista as well. It would appear that Microsoft is honked off at Linux or "piracy" or some other cause, but if you google some of the errors caused by the NATIVE Windows DVD burner and now several others (NERO in particular) ... they're ALL failing to burn an ISO image properly and either just copying the file as a "regular data disk" (instead of an ISO image) *or* they error out with the usual Microsoft psychobabble of spurious undefined error messages DURING the burn, resulting in a useless puck. As best as we can determine, when this happens, Windows itself is running out of memory and "buffer" and tossing its own cookies without benefit of pizza parlor window. Heh. I've seen quite a few of those lately. It would appear that only ImgBurn or an old "illegal" program known as DVDDecrypter (no longer available) are the only ones of late that will burn a reliable ISO image of anything lately. Meanwhile, apparently no problem on XP. Glad ImgBurn worked, at least that hasn't been messed with yet.

I think I have the right file, see screenshot....I should be good to burn since I am running XP Pro. Greetings! And like out to Pharisse and many others, THANKS for helping out! Yep ... that's exactly the right filesize for KNOS 32 bit Beta 3 ... forgive my antsy-ness about those burns, but I've had quite a few people who happily burned the previous versions with no problem and suddenly of late, Windows refuses to make a proper burn with their OWN "CD/DVD burner." ISO burns are different from a "data disk" or "backup" type burn of a DVD, and so it has to be done right to make a "disk image." But it's always worked without a problem on Windows before and nothing's changed on our end. An ISO is an ISO is an ISO. Almost makes me wonder if they've suddenly broken their own burner software or if there might be another reason for it suddenly blowing up so often from out of nowhere. When burned with ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter, NO problem. But even NERO has been scrooching up lately too which makes me wonder if there's some hosing in a Windows update behind all this. But if you end up with a bad burn somehow, look for a copy of ImgBurn (it's free) and that should do the trick if you have any problems ...

my first download was bad; wouldn't unzip. The second download was successful. In XP, the first burn using Nero 7 said unsucessful, with a wide range of errors starting around 350000. The second burn WAS sucdessful, and I was able to boot into KNOS.
However - even on the downloaded file and the ISO file.. NONE of the checks CDC-32 / MDA-5 / SHA-1 matched. This was checked using Pea-Zip

Used to burn DVD's with it for recordings I did off satellite and many of them turned into pucks too. That's why we suggest ImgBurn which tends to make much more reliable burns than Nero. As for the hashes, apologies there. We've redone the distribution a few days ago with some adjustments to the beta3 kernel to resolve some issues that have been reported since the original release. The email going out still contains the hashes from the first release. Will fix that so that the emails reflect the new download.
