"" "Oracle's imposition of fees for some OpenOffice capabilities caused some of the venerable open source office suite's creators to head out on their own and create LibreOffice as a truly free OSS tool. ""
Is it worth looking into replacing OpenOffice with LibreOffice to avoid unexpected fees cropping up at inopportune moment?

"" "Oracle's imposition of fees for some OpenOffice capabilities caused some of the venerable open source office suite's creators to head out on their own and create LibreOffice as a truly free OSS tool. "" Is it worth looking into replacing OpenOffice with LibreOffice to avoid unexpected fees cropping up at inopportune moment? I'll look into that. For custom builds, anything the customer wants, they can have. As far as OpenOffice goes, it's the closest of all we've seen for corporate users to Microsoft Office which is what they'd want. The Gnome stuff was downright awful and that's why we went with OO in our distribution. From a fast cursory look at LO, it might not be ready for prime time either as yet, but I'll look a little deeper into it. But whatever the customer wants, we're prepared to deliver. The intent is to charge for KNOS when it's released unless some parties want to subsidize its free distribution to others, and so any costs added to our end of the equation will be reflected in the price. And of course those who've participated in our testing will get their copies of KNOS for free as our way of saying thanks for helping us to get it together, so no worries there either.

Just as a followup on this nearly a year later. Dunno what Oracle's brain damage is, but OpenOffice is dead. Everyone involved has flown the coop and it's no longer being maintained even by Oracle. Therefore ... Libre Office (which is remarkably unchanged from Ooo) will be in the next release of KNOS. Thanks once again for being ahead of your time!
